Readings

Jack Powers will be reading with a host of excellent poets this Saturday,  January 20 at 2:00 as part of a Voices of Poetry Event at the Minor Memorial  Library in Roxbury,  CT.

The book launch for Jack Powers’ second collection, Still Love, was at Byrd’s Books in Bethel, CT on Sunday, February 26.   Here’s a link to a recording of the reading and the Q&A: . In 2023, he also read at the Wilton Salon on April 22, online at FUMFA Poets & Writers Live on May 14, Eco Evolution on May 19, the Fairfield University Bookstore on June 4, Great Weather for Media at the Parkside Lounge in NYC, the Hudson Valley Writers Center on August 6,  the Mark Twain LIbrary on September 26 and Writers in Conversation at the Norwalk Library on November 16.

He read February 1 at 7:00 on Zoom at as part of Poets from Connecticut’s Four Corners reading series (my twelve-minute reading starts at the 47:49 mark) and he was interviewed on February 4 as part of Sandy Carlson’s People and Their Poems podcast series.

On November 3, Jack hosted a poetry panel at the Pequot Library with Jessie McEntee, Barb Fulton Jennes and Nicole Caruso Garcia. He read at the FUMFA Poets and Writers Live on September 11 with Sandy Carlson. Here’s a link to the YouTube recording. He starts at the ten-minute mark. He also read Sunday, May 15 at Byrd’s Books, a great local bookstore in Bethel, CT. He read July 28 at John Mac’s Poetry Workshop and June 27 at the Norwalk Arts Festival. He was interviewed via Zoom on November 12 at 6:00 as part of the Pequot Library’s Meet the Author series. He was a featured reader at Great Weather for Media Spoken Word Sundays at 4:00 on August 30 also via Zoom. He read via Zoom at the Hudson Valley Writers Center at 4:00 on August 2 and at The Norwalk Arts Festival, a virtual event this year, on Saturday, June 27.

Jack’s reading at Pop’TArt in Westport on March 27 has been postponed. His scheduled reading at Byrd’s Books in Bethel has been postponed to August 8. The six-week poetry course, “Poem by Poem: Writing YourMemoir in Verse,” at Bigelow Senior Center scheduled for April has been postponed to 2021. He presented a poetry workshop and a mini-lesson on the American Sonnet as part of the poetry panel at the Fairfield Library Writers Conference on November 2.

He read a few poems and talked writing and teaching with Vin Dacquino on his TV show One on One  on October 2.

He was a featured reader at Hudson Valley Writers Center on August 7 with Vincent Bell and Ellen Devlin. He read on June 29 at the Norwalk Art Festival at Lockwood Mathews Mansion.

On May 18, Jack read at the Sleepy Hollow Lit Fest during the 11:00 to 1:00 shift on with Tony Howarth, Rachel M. Simon, Michael Collins and others.  He also read at the Fairfield Library May 5 at 2:00 with Jeff Schwartz, Alison McBain and Ed Ahern as  one of Four Fairfield Poets.

Jack welcomed guest poet Nicole Caruso Garcia to the Joel Barlow’s Poetry Day on April 10. Jack and Nicole read dozens of poems and welcomed over 100 student readers and a dozen teacher readers to the open mic.

HIs April 11 one-hour interview on National Writing Project Radio broadcast is now available as a podcast.  The interview covers his teaching career, his work with the Connecticut Writing Project, and the writing programs at Barlow. He will also read a few poems.

Powers read and gave poetry workshops at the Greenwich Academy Poetry Festival on March 30. On March 27. He also read at Byrd’s Books in Bethel on March 15 as part of their Spring Poetry Series,  at Mark Twain Library in Redding at on Sunday, March 3 and at the Fairfield University Bookstore on January 27. Here’s a link to his reading of the poem Bonehead and other Poems.. 

He was interviewed on Sunday, December 3, on The johnmac Radio Show (www.blogtalkradio.com/johmac13/2018/12/03/johnmac-radio-show). He was featured as one of the two “Poets in Conversation” at the Norwalk Library on December 6, reading with Michele Herman and he was the featured reader at the Hudson Valley Writers Center on Friday, November 15. He will also be reading at Norwalk Poetry Festival in June and Never Ending Books in New Haven. Stay tuned for dates.

He was on the Poetry Panel at Fairfield Library Writer’s Conference and present a generative writing workshop at 1:00 on November 3. was the emcee and featured reader at the third Behind the Red Ink Redding Teachers Recite Poetry reading at Mark Twain Library on May 6 at 3:00. Jack and guest poet Diana Goetsch hosted Joel Barlow’s fifth Poetry Day on April 19. He was the guest poet at Pope Francis High School in Chicopee, Mass. on April 4.

He has been a featured reader at The Cornelia Street Cafe in Greenwich Village, The Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, the Fairfield Arts Council, the Wednesday Night Poetry Series in Newtown, CT, Manhattanville College, SHS Poetry Day, The Studio Around the Corner in Brewster, NY, and the Mark Twain Library in Redding, CT.
