Essays

WHEN I began writing with my my special education students thirty-five years ago, we only wrote personal essays. They were not driven to learn to write because they thought it was good for them, they were motivated to tell their own stories and hear the stories of others.

A good short personal essay is beautiful, intimate art form that’s often overlooked. It still may be my favorite form.

Here’s a few of my own essays written over the years. I wish I had more of my students’ essays to share.
